CASTING - Principals
KING ARTHUR: The King of England who sets out on a quest to form the Knights of the Roundtable and find the Holy Grail. Great Humor. Good singer.
SIR ROBIN: A Knight of the Roundtable. Ironically called ‘Sir Robin the Brave,’ though he couldn’t be more cowardly. Joins the Knights for the singing and dancing.
SIR LANCELOT d/b/a LANCE: A Knight of the Roundtable. He is fearless to a bloody fault, but through a twist of fate, does discover his ‘softer side.
PATSY: King Arthur’s horse and servant. Underappreciated but always longing for King Arthur’s approval. Good, funny, physical mover with some tap dancing.
SIR GALAHAD: A Knight of the Roundtable. Begins as Dennis, a lower class ‘mud gatherer’ who becomes knighted and transforms into the dashing Sir Galahad. Strong bari/tenor singing required.
SIR BEDEVERE: A Knight of the Roundtable. An inept scholar. No solo singing.
THE LADY OF THE LAKE: A Diva. Strong, beautiful, possesses mystical powers. The leading lady of the show. Great singing voice is essential, as she must be able to sing effortlessly in many styles and vocal registers.
HISTORIANS (3): Tweedy academics. Must have excellent diction.
NOT DEAD FRED: A sickly little fellow who, despite others’ beliefs, claims he is “not yet dead.”

DENNIS GALAHAD’S MOTHER: a shrill peasant woman.

LAKER GIRLS: Backup singers/dancers for Lady of the Lake (some solos)
THE FRENCH TAUNTER: an arrogant, condescending, over-the-top Frenchman
TWO FRENCH GUARDS: also arrogant, condescending, over-the-top Frenchman
ROBIN’S MINSTRELS: In Sir Robin’s band
THE KNIGHT OF NI: an absurd, cartoonish leader of a peculiar group of Knights
THE KNIGHTS OF NI: usually played by female actors
GUARD 1: The lead guard
GUARD 2: A drunken, useless guard
CONCORDE: Sir Lancelot’s horse and servant
TIM THE ENCHANTER: a ghostly being with a Scottish accent.
SIR BORS: a knight who will confront the killer rabbit
WHAT TO DO FOR THE AUDITION
Prepare approximately 32 bars of a song that shows humor and character. A musical theatre song would be a far better choice than a ‘pop’ song.
A pianist will be provided. Sheet music must be in the correct key. There will be no transposing. Sheet music is available on line, and transpositions are frequently available.

Accompaniment tracks are okay but cannot have any other voice on the recording. No ‘singing along’ with another vocalist.
Provide photo and resume if possible.
Must list conflicts occurring during the rehearsal and performance period on the calendar provided below.
Rehearsals will begin Monday, May 14.
The general rehearsal schedule will be Monday-Friday, 3:30-8:00 pm until school is out. After that, Monday-Sunda 10:00 am - 8:00 pm. This schedule is only a time frame. The actual schedule will be determined by casting and conflicts.
Not everyone will be needed at every rehearsal. We do our best to be considerate of your time.
Parents - We will try to be respectful of the time but the final weeks will involve later nights. Since it’s summer, this shouldn’t be a problem.
Rehearsals & Performances take place here at No Square Theatre.
You will be notified by email if you have a Callback and then later cast in the show.
Nearly all communications regarding the show will be via email with emergency changes addressed via text. Please be certain we have your correct cell phone, email address and check your email daily. Please add production staff to your address book so that our notes to you aren’t filtered as trash or junk mail.
Tickets are sold online and, IF AVAILABLE, at the door on the night of performance. No Square Theatre has a small space, so there are typically no comps and no refunds. Members & Donors have first access to tickets followed by the cast and then the public.
Performances are Friday-Sunday
July 20 & 27 at 7:00, 21 & 28 at 7:00, 22 & 29 at 2:00.
There is a potential for added performances. Saturdays at 2:00 and Sundays at 6:00.
All rehearsals and perfomances are at No Square Theatre, 384 Legion Street, Laguna Beach, CA 92651. No Square Theatre is a community theatre. There is no pay.
