Tap training helps to increase leg and core strength, musicality and rhythm, and showmanship. Tap class is a fun and exciting way to explore dance movement and learn basic through advanced steps. It also helps to improve coordination and teamwork skills. Tap dancing is a great compliment to any dancer wishing to perform in musicals or play a musical instrument because of its important concentration on musicality and rhythm. Tap dancing helps students to find their inner performer and challenges the student to open up and become a versatile performer. Tap dancing focuses on learning complex patterns of foot movement, changes in tempo and different methods of weight transfer while dancing in order to produce a certain sound or look that accompanies the type of choreography or steps that the students are working on in class.

Session I classes introduces fundamental tap techniques arranged in combinations and performed in class as solo or group demonstrations.

Whether you are experimenting to see where you or your  child’s interests lie, have an aspiring dancer in the works, or looking for a creative exercise program, Tap is a terrific and uniquely American form of dance that is sure to get your heart pumping and, well, your toes tapping.

No Square Theatre periodically provides reasonably-priced theatre camps and classes for adults and children, typically at our theatre in Legion Hall, Laguna Beach, CA. A summer program culminating in a Broadway-style musical revue.  To get eBlasts about auditions, registration and performances of our youth programs, please sign up here.

Today, youth theatre is more important than ever before. With the arts being cut from our schools, it is so important for kids to have an outlet to be able to express themselves, because it’s not just about a performance. It’s about so many life skills that you gain along the way. Whether it be gaining confidence or just being able to be yourself, when kids are doing theatre, they can be free to be silly without the judgement that they may get in another setting.

Here at No Square, we strive to provide a safe and nurturing environment where kids and adults alike can express themselves as individuals on and off the stage. While our shows are amazing, it is the friendships and special bonds of theatre that keep our No Square families coming back year after year.

What Drama Education Can Teach Your Child
By Kimberly Haynes

With the success of Hannah Montana and High School Musical, theater is suddenly hot. Your child may be showing interest in this year’s school play. But do you really want him to be an actor?

Gai Jones says, “Yes!” A theater educator with over forty years of experience, Jones' work has been recognized by the American Alliance for Theater and Education, the Educational Theater Association, and the California State Senate (among others).

According to Jones, “Theater addresses the skills which benefit children's education and development in five general areas: physical development/kinesthetic skills, artistic development /drama and theater skills, mental development/thinking skills, personal development/intra-personal skills, and social development/interpersonal skills.”
